Xplorearth organised the BMW Pir Panjal Himalayan Expedition between September 07-13, 2021, taking the riders over a mixture of popular and lesser known routes, all challenging in their own right.
Date : SEPTEMBER 7-13, 2021
Day 0
The riders congregated at Krishna Motorrad in Chandigarh for the riders’ briefing and registration formalities. Final touches were made on all the bike preparation and the riders had an early night in anticipation of what was to come.
DAY 1
Day 1 comprised a smooth tarmac run through Punjab to Jammu. The day was good orientation for riders who had recently purchased their bikes and those who were renting two wheelers for the event. The group rolled into the historic Hari Niwas Palace in Jammu for the night after a solid few hours of saddle time.
DAY 2
Day 2 was a long day, taking the riders over the Old Mughal Road and into Kashmir. The group rode past Akhnoor, Chingus, Rajouri and Thana Mandi, before beginning the ascent from Bafliaz towards Pir Ki Gali, which greeted us with a stunning sunset. The riders then descended into Kashmir and into Srinagar for the night.
DAY 3
After the toils of the previous day, Day 3 was a relatively short one to Gulmarg via Tanmarg. After a short stretch of off roading and some birthday celebrations in a gorgeous meadow, the group made their way up the winding tarmac to Gulmarg for the night.
DAY 4
Day 4 saw the riders make their way from Gulmarg to Pahalgam via Anantnag. Fast, flowing tarmac was the order of the day, barring a few off road diversions courtesy of characteristic road blocks, but the group arrived in beautiful Pahalgam in the early hours of the evening.
DAY 5
Day 5 proved to be an extremely challenging one. With some of the riders keen to take the main road to Patni Top – our halt for the night, the group was divided into two. The majority of the pack chose to take the original route over Sinthan Pass, and they were rewarded with an amazing tarmac run up to the top and down the other side as a result! The day was long and the troops arrived well under cover of darkness.
DAY 6
Day 6 was a relatively leisurely run from Patni Top to Dalhousie, where the ride was set to culminate. The arrival of the group was followed by certification and a group dinner to celebrate the end of a successful event!
The BMW Pir Panjal Himalayan Expedition was a superb combination of a Level 1 ride and a way to see Kashmir the way most people would never have the opportunity to! Onwards and Upwards!
